Inspired by the song of the same name, “The Boy in the Black Dress” visualizes some of my inner thoughts as a transgender person, feeling like I’m living a lie. The long exposures utilize colors representing emotions found in each image. This series highlights the many ways that masculinity is valued, but only when done “correctly.” When someone breaks a stereotype or goes against the grain, the response from the people around them is integral to determining their self-expression and inner feelings of themself.
