You Are My Moon and Stars

2025

Being in a Queer Platonic Relationship is like being part of a binary star system. The partners are individual, but seem to burn together as one. They are “gravitationally bound” as they orbit around one another. They are a pair, traveling together through time and space, each with their own masses and temperatures, but they interact through eclipses, nebulas, and supernovas. Queer Platonic Partners, such as my best friend Wilbur and myself, orbit around each other. Our lives are intertwined from living together for several years, from surviving past friendships, and from understanding each other on a level no other person can understand. We cannot imagine life without one another, even as we begin to physically drift apart. We will always be part of the same solar system, the same orbit, until we crash together and supernova.

You Are My Moon and Stars is a series of diptychs comparing images of Wilbur and myself to cosmic images of pinwheel galaxies, ring nebulas, and binary stars sourced from NASA’s image database. The diptychs are cyanotypes, toned in wine tannins to create deep purples, reminiscent of outer space.
